Joyce Ryan is a Consultant Research Scientist with over twenty five years’ specialist expertise in sensory analysis, clinical trials, statistics and computing.
She enjoyed an eleven year career with Colgate Palmolive’s International Personal Care Products R&D department starting as a Product Development Scientist in Hair Care. The appeal of the half head salon test led Joyce to move from formulation to evaluation developing new techniques first in Hair Care then in Skin and Body Care.
Continuing interest in the field of sensory analysis resulted in the establishment in 1989 of the independent product evaluation service Joyce Ryan Consultancy.
Joyce’s practical experience in application of statistics to product evaluation is utilised in her part-time lecturing position with the training company Statistics for Industry based in Yorkshire In addition she has also lectured on the Society of Cosmetic Scientists’ Certificate Course in Cosmetic Science and is the author of the Product Evaluation and Statistics modules for the Society’s distance learning course. Joyce has also assisted in the development of the BSc Cosmetic Science Degree course recently set up at the London College of Fashion.
Joyce sits on the British Standards Committee for Sensory Analysis in Foods and is a member of the SCI, the Market Research Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
